Our mission is to establish a fully non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the Mariner community in the Gulf Islands of BC. We aim to provide cost-effective solutions and essential services to ensure the well-being and safety of Mariners vessels.
The Reality
- According to Transport Canada, there were 105 reported boating fatalities in Canadian waters in 2020.
- A significant number of these fatalities occurred among Mariner vessels, often due to inadequate support and resources.
- The Mariner community has been marginalized, with many forced to anchor in remote areas due to limited access to marinas and public wharfs.
- The sale of public wharfs to private organizations has exacerbated this issue, prioritizing profit over people.
- Insurance and liability concerns have led marinas to restrict or prohibit Mariner vessels, leaving many without a safe and secure place to call home.
- This has resulted in a lack of access to basic necessities like sanitation, water, and emergency services.
- We will provide free emergency response services to Mariner vessels, ensuring timely support in times of need.
- Our non-profit organization will work towards establishing a marina that welcomes Mariner vessels, offering affordable rates and essential services.
